I am very pleased with this product!

To give some context, this is my first bike rack so I cannot really compare the TieRod build quality against its direct competition (Yakima and Thule), but for the price paid I must say that I am happy that I decided to try Rocky Mounts.

The build quality and finish is very good: The head base seems to be made of metal (or a very sturdy metal-like composite - RackAttack and Backcountry advertise them as solid metal); the aluminum tray is very well made, especially the cut for the disc brake.

The rack fits perfectly on elliptical factory racks (I've a Subaru bar) and, according to some reviews, it will also fit on Yakima round and Thule square bars. It has a very sleek low profile head that seems stylish and aerodynamic.

The lock skewer is nice, it took me some time to first adjust it to my fork but once this one-time setting was done, locking the bike became simple and easy. It also secures my bike quite... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for my 2006 Subaru Outback, May 29, 2010
Great colors, easy to install, easy to mount bike, low profile, quiet, and fits my 2006 Subaru Outback factory crossbars. Be sure crossbar is moved as far foward as possible, small gap towards front, to enable tailgate to open fully. Only drawback is tailgate will not fully open, when bike is mounted, hits rear tire. With my MTB it is so close it is not a big deal, at least to me. Be sure and get two lock cores, one to lock tray to car and another to lock bike to skewer. Yakima and Thule cores will not fit, at least not the ones I have. I have owned trunk mounted, hitch mounted and roof mounted by several companies and this is the cheapest and best I have ever had.

3.0 out of 5 stars NIce but long, July 5, 2011

I tried to mount this on top of a Honda Pilot and it was too long. The hatch was inoperable even when the cross bars were mounted in the furthest forward position. Keep this in mind if ordering for a similar size vehicle. Other than that they seemed to be of high quality--much nicer than the Thule domestique that was more expensive but short enough to fit...too bad.
